Diamond jewellery needs to be considered as a complete piece. With earrings like these, I don't simply look at the weight of the white gold. I examine the diamonds, their settings, the construction and condition of the earrings, and any hallmarks that help identify the precious metal.
The aim is to establish whether the jewellery has value beyond the metal alone before providing an offer. You don't need certificates, original receipts or specialist knowledge before showing me a piece. If you have paperwork, it's useful to see — but if you don't, bring the jewellery anyway.

Gold isn't the only precious metal worth showing me.
Silver jewellery can range from relatively lightweight everyday pieces to substantial chains, bracelets and designer jewellery. I also buy antique silver, silverware and larger collections accumulated over many years.
When examining silver, I look at the hallmarks, weight, condition, maker and whether the item has value beyond its precious-metal content. So if you're sorting through jewellery and aren't sure whether something is silver, plated or another metal, don't worry about working it out beforehand.
What Does 375 Mean on Gold Jewellery?

The left red arrow points towards additional hallmark punches on the bracelet.
Depending on the item and when and where it was hallmarked, these small symbols can provide further information about the piece, such as the sponsor associated with it, the assay office and, on some jewellery, its date.
They're often extremely small, worn or difficult to read without magnification.
Right Red Arrow: 375
The right red arrow points to the number 375.
This is the fineness mark for 9ct gold. It means that 375 parts out of every 1,000 are pure gold — in other words, the alloy contains 37.5% pure gold.
For comparison, you may also encounter other numbers on gold jewellery, such as 750 on 18ct gold.
You don't need to memorise any of this before arranging a valuation.
Part of my job is to examine these marks, establish what your jewellery is made from and explain what I'm seeing while we go through your items together. And if you can't find a hallmark, don't automatically assume the piece isn't gold.
Marks can be tiny, worn or absent on some jewellery, and further examination or testing may be required.
A Valuation Should Give You Answers
Whether I'm looking at diamond earrings, a heavy silver chain or an old gold bracelet with tiny hallmarks, the principle is the same:
You should understand what you have before deciding whether you want to sell it.
If I recognise a hallmark, I'll explain it. If something needs testing, I'll tell you why. And if a piece deserves consideration beyond its precious-metal weight, I'll take that into account.

Don't assume it isn't gold. Hallmarks can be extremely small, worn away or absent for various reasons. Some older or foreign jewellery may also carry different markings. If there's any doubt, I can examine and, where appropriate, test the piece during your valuation.
Are diamond earrings worth more than their gold weight?
They can be. With diamond jewellery, I consider the piece as a whole rather than automatically valuing it solely for its precious-metal content. The diamonds, setting, condition, construction and gold or platinum all need to be considered. You don't need the original box, receipt or diamond certificate before showing them to me.
Do you buy silver jewellery as well as gold?
Yes. I buy silver jewellery, chains, bracelets, silverware and many other silver items. Heavy silver chains like the example above are certainly worth showing me, but I'm equally happy to look at smaller pieces or mixed collections.
I've inherited jewellery and don't know what's real. Can you check it?
Absolutely. You don't need to separate the gold from the silver, plated pieces or costume jewellery before I arrive. I'm happy to look through the collection with you and identify anything that deserves closer attention.
